Celebrity Estate Lesson — Casey Kasem

Casey Kasem

Who doesn't remember kicking back and listening to Casey Kasem's American Top 40? Okay, maybe a lot of people, but if you don't recognize his name, I'm sure you've heard his voice. Beyond being a famous radio DJ, Kasem was the first voice of Norville Rogers aka Shaggy on Scooby-Doo.

In 2013 it was announced that Kasem had developed a form of dementia similar to Parkinson's disease. Over the next few years, there were a lot of lawsuits between his wife and children from an earlier marriage. It should be no surprise that more lawsuits were filed upon his death.

It was understood that Kasem wanted to be buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in California. However, within days of his passing, and before a temporary restraining order to stop his widow from cremating him could be served, his widow had the body moved to Canada. He was ultimately buried in Oslo, Norway.

Stating your final wishes as part of your will can help govern these decisions, whether among your family members or on the unlikely chance they would have to go to court. If you
